Sports Performance Training:

Our mission is to strengthen the foundation of each individual's athletic ability and build a better athlete and an even better person. The YMCA Sports Performance Center at the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA is Southington’s newest, most comprehensive indoor training center. If you want to improve your performance as an athlete, then training at the Sports Performance Center is a must. 

Our athlete program is geared toward meeting athletes where they are at and helping them take the next step in getting better for their sport(s) & health. From 11 year olds starting a sport for the first time, to college athletes in their 20’s, our individualized & results driven approach make our the best training program for athletes in & around Southington. 

Training at the SPC is right for you if you want to: 

  • maximize performance and excel at your sport and position by improving your speed, agility, strength, power, and other physical qualities important to athletics
  • Prevent injuries by resolving possible underlying stability, mobility, and movement issues that have caused injuries in the past or increased the risk of various injuries.
  • implement a proven and tested training philosophy that will keep you healthy and in elite shape for the duration of your athletic career and beyond.

HERE’S WHAT THE PROCESS OF TRAINING AT THE SPC LOOKS LIKE
  • You will schedule a free trial session and
  • Once you meet a coach, we can get to know where you are right now, what you want to achieve, and what’s holding you back.
  • Your coach will work with you to establish goals and a timeline for reaching them.
  • You’ll have your own training program developed by our coaches, all while being monitored and consulted by your coach every step of the way.
  • Based on your results, the coaches will provide guidance & coaching to adjust any timelines and goals to ensure you stay on the right track.
ELEMENTS OF OUR SPORTS PERFORMANCE TRAINING PROGRAMS
  • SPEED – Maximal speed, acceleration, deceleration, linear and lateral movement techniques, running Mechanics, footwork
  • EXPLOSIVE POWER –Plyometrics & jumping training, med ball training
  • STRENGTH – Functional & progressive approach, thorough coaching & instruction, 
  • AGILITY – Change of direction movement skills/techniques progressed into more challenging, game-like situations
  • CONDITIONING – Game Ready Preparation for all Athletes.
  • FLEXIBILITY & MOBILITY– Myofascial release (Foam Rolling), various forms of mobility & stretching
  • INJURY REDUCTION – Identify & correct any imbalances, balance & stability, & overall a smart & effective training approach
  • SLEEP & NUTRITION HABITS – Identify areas of improvement to build better habits to aid in athletes’ performance & recovery
TRAINING SESSION SCHEDULES

You can register for 4 weeks at a time through our monthly option, or you can register for one of our full seasonal sessions (winter, spring, summer & fall).

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS PERFORMANCE PROGRAMS

Our Middle School athlete programs are designed for young athletes ages 11 years old through 14 and will give your young athlete an advantage on the competition. We emphasize teaching young athletes the fundamentals of strength and conditioning in a safe learning environment & gradually progressing them to increase challenge & intensity under the guidance of our coaches. This program is 45 minutes in length and incorporates all elements of our programs, modified for the younger athlete.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS PERFORMANCE PROGRAMS

Our High School athlete programs are designed for athletes ages 14-18 and made to enhance the performance of your young athlete. Sometimes these athletes have a bit more experience in our program. We aim to help your high school athlete feel stronger, faster, and more powerful than their competition. This program is 45 minutes in length and incorporates all elements of our program, enhanced to suit the needs of maturing athletes.

COLLEGE SPORTS PERFORMANCE PROGRAMS

Our college athlete programs are designed for current or rising collegiate athletes preparing for their upcoming school year. With the needs of higher-level athletes in mind, the program uses more advanced strength and conditioning techniques as well as more intense conditioning regimens. 

Often, our college-level athletes have programs directly from their school that we adjust to better fit the individual needs of the athlete & best serve them to ensure all athletes are ready for their upcoming competitive season. The program is 45 minutes in length and incorporates all elements of our programs, modified to serve & develop higher level athletes. 

SPC Rules, Regulations and Cancellation Policy

Facility and Cancellation Policy

You must call 24hrs in advance to move a training session. Sessions can be made up within 4 weeks from the start date. If you have signed up for the full session you have that time period to make up sessions. Scheduling conflicts can be addressed with SPC director. Payment must be made at front desk before the start of the next training session. Athletes will not be allowed to participate if they are not in the scheduling software. No refunds, credits will be given. Mid phase sign-ups are allowed.

Behavior standards
YMCA Sports Performance Center is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all of our athletes and staff members. To ensure safety and comfort for all, we ask athletes to act appropriately at all times during training. Athletes are expected to behave in a mature and responsible way and respect the rights and dignity of others. Any inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and may result in suspension or removal from the program.

- 1st Warning - A verbal warning will be issued and the athlete will be reminded of the athlete Behavior Standards.

- 2nd Warning - A meeting with the Unit Director will take place to discuss the incidents and written warning will be issued. A phone call home will be made in addition to the written report

- 3rd Warning – A parent meeting will be setup with the SPC Director informing them of the inappropriate behavior and to discuss the incidents. A plan of correction action will be formed; this may include suspension or removal from training.

YMCA Guidelines
All athletes are expected to be caring, honest, respectful and responsible while at the SPC. - All athletes will listen to and follow directives/instructions that are given by all staff members. - SPC is an electronic free zone; this includes cell phones, ipods, and video games. If electronics come to SPC, they must remain safely stored in the coat closet. Remember the YMCA is not responsible for the loss or damage of any personal item.

Proper athletic attire must be worn at all times- no jeans, no spaghetti strap or tube tops. Athletic shoes must be worn.

 

Rules and Regulations for the Sports Performance Center...

  1. Safety First!
  2. Wear proper attire: Clean, Athletic Clothing, and Sneakers
  3. Store all belongings in the coat closet
  4. No horseplay, loud or offensive language
  5. No food, gum, glass, or cans in the SPC
  6. Re-Rack all weights and dumbbells
  7. Report all injuries to SPC Coaches
  8. No Cell Phone or Headphone use while training
  9. Always use Common Sense
  10. Be Aware of other Athletes in the SPC
  11. Athletes should not be training without any Supervision
  12. Leave the SPC Center Clean and Neat
  13. Observing training sessions must be cleared with the SPC Director or under Special Circumstances
  14. Don't be Afraid to ask for help and HAVE FUN!
