Youth Sports Overview

VICTORY ISN'T JUST A SCORE

Welcome to the Southington YMCA Youth Sports Program. Our programs offer a diverse array of sports to get your kids active in a safe and fun environment. Whether you're interested in preparing them for competitive sports, improving their skills at a clinic or giving them the opportunity to make new friends in a league, there's a perfect program for every child. Participants in these programs develop skills, learn about teamwork, and focus on sportsmanship. Families are presented with second-to-none volunteer opportunities as coaches, team parents, and committee members.

Youth learn new skills, make new friends, develop essential character traits, and set individual and team goals. This improves self-confidence, promotes diversity, increases self-esteem, and improves physical condition. 

YMCA Youth Sports Philosophy:

YMCA youth sports are based on the concept that fair play is the very essence part of competition. Everybody should have an equal opportunity to compete and a fair chance to participate.

Fair play implies respect for oneself; one’s opponent and others involved in conducting the competition.  Players, coaches, officials and spectators share a responsibility for fair play.  Fair play sets the child above the game. The YMCA believes that its youth sports programs provide an excellent environment for developing sound spirit, mind and body.  As these virtues grow, they will influence behavior in everyday life.

Equipment and Clothing:

All participants should wear comfortable clothing and sneakers. The YMCA will provide each child with a T-shirt. Please remember to wear this each week because it will help build a sense of belonging to the team. There will also be designated times for stretching and water breaks in each class.

Youth Golf

GOLF
Develop golf skills, etiquette, and learn the basics of playing golf. In class your athlete will learn putting, chipping, driving, patience, and proper etiquette in a fun and age appropriate way.

Program Options:
Allstar Golf – 7-10 year olds

 

Track and Field

TRACK AND FIELD

Develop a wide variety of Track and Field skills, teamwork, and learn the basics of different events. In class your athlete will learn about running events, throwing events, and team events in a fun and age appropriate way.

Program Options:
• Spring Olympics – 4 year olds
• Indoor Track and Field – 5-7 year olds

 

Youth Sports Spectacular

Sports Spectacular 

Develop sports skills, teamwork, and confidence.  In each class your Athlete will learn the skills of a different sport, then play the sport in a fun and age appropriate way.

Program Options:

  • Parent and Me Sports Spectacular– 3 year olds and Adult  
  • Mighty Mights– 4 year olds  
  • Sports Spectacular –  5-7 year olds
  • Girls Sports Spectacular- 5-7 years old

Youth T-ball

Youth T-Ball

Develop baseball skills, teamwork, and learn the basics of baseball. In each class your athlete will learn fielding, throwing, hitting, and safety instruction in a fun and age appropriate way. 

 

Program Options:

  • Parent and Me T-Ball-3 year olds and Adult  
  • PeeWee T-Ball-4 year olds  
  • Rookies T-Ball– 5-6 year olds  
  • Winners T-Ball –7-8 year olds

Youth Flag Football

Youth Flag Football

Develop football skills, teamwork, and learn the basics of football. In each class your athlete will learn defense, passing, catching, and running in a fun and age appropriate way.

Program Options:

  • Parent and Me Flag Football-3 year olds 
  • Pee Wee Flag Football-4 year olds
  • Rookies Flag Football– 5-7 year olds

Youth Soccer

Youth Soccer (Indoor and Outdoor)

Develop soccer skills, teamwork, and learn the basics of soccer. In each class your Athlete will learn shooting, passing, dribbling, and defense in a fun and age appropriate way. 

 

Program Options:

 

  • Parent and Me Outdoor Soccer-3 year olds 
  • Pee Wee Outdoor Soccer-4 year olds
  • Rookies Outdoor Soccer– 5-6 year olds
  • Winners Outdoor Soccer– 7-8 year olds

Youth Basketball

Develop basketball skills, teamwork, and learn the basics of basketball.  In each class your athlete will learn shooting, passing, dribbling, and defense in a fun and age appropriate way.

  • All Star Basketball – 9-10 year olds

Youth Indoor Floor Hockey

Develop hockey skills, teamwork, and learn the basics of hockey.  In each class your athlete will learn shooting, passing, dribbling, and defense in a fun and age appropriate way.
