2015 Connecticut YMCA State Gymnastics Level 5 and Level 7 Third Place Team

Gymnastics challenges youth to persevere to new levels of achievement. Kids gain self-confidence when they realize their potential. They have a chance to express themselves in this unique sport that combines creativity and physicality.

Gymnasts of all abilities and ages have a great opportunity to have fun while developing a basic foundation for the sport of gymnastics. Our progressive lessons help kids fine-tune their talents and love of the sport. With enthusiastic instructors leading the way, students are excited and motivated to learn new skills each week.

Program goals: The YMCA believes that character development is an essential element of sports. Caring, honesty, respect, responsibilty and faith are valued on and off the field. In YMCA sports, everyone plays and everyone plays fair. We put safety first and emphasive positive competition. YMCA sports are for all and are played for fun.

Gymnastic Programs

Programs Offered 

Baby Open Gym
Age: Infants and Toddlers, 6 Months to 2 Years *Drop in Class
This Class is a great opportunity for your child to crawl around, learn through play, and experience our gym for the first time. This class is also a great way to spend extra time with your child. Tuesday/Thursday 9-10 AM

Little Leapers

Age: 3 to 4 years

Activities in the class include the use of mats, rope, trampoline, and equipment that are appropriate for the student’s height. Children learn to develop coordination, strength, flexibility, and balance through movement.
 FRIDAY- 5-5:50 PM | SATURDAY-10-10:50 AM


Junior Gymnast
Age: 4 to 5 years
This class is a fun and exciting way for children to enjoy exercising while learning basic gymnastics skills. Our Junior Gymnast class emphasizes strength, coordination, and social skills.
FRIDAY- 5-5:50 PM | SATURDAY-11-11:50 AM


Age: 2 to 3 years, with parent
Our student s in the Parent-Tot class learn with the help of our instructors and their parents to follow directions, improve balance, and develop gross motor skills, gain strength, and self-confidence. FRIDAY- 4 PM | SATURDAY- 9-9:45 AM


Ages: 5 to 7 years

The Beginners class is designed for gymnasts with prior gymnastics experience. Children build on their gymnastics skills while gaining flexibility and strength while progressing at their own pace in a fun and safe environment.
FRIDAY- 5:55-6:55 PM | SATURDAY- 12-1 PM


Advanced Beginners
Ages: 7 to 12 years

The Advanced Beginners class is a fun-filled class where athletes will start to focus on more advanced skills on all four gymnastics events.

 MONDAY -4:30-5:30 PM |FRIDAY- 5:55-6:55 PM

Ages: 6 to 12 years
Our tumbling class is for children who would like to learn skills for cheerleading, dance, or Karate. Strength and Flexibility will be a part of this class as well as the use of the spring floor and trampoline.
 WED 4-5 PM

Hot Shots
Ages 4-6, Gymnasts must test to get into this class
Wednesday 4:30-5:30PM

Intermediate Gymnastics
Ages 8-12
Tuesdays 4:30-6 PM

Mighty Ninja
Ages 5-7 Recommended for Boys

Gymnastics Team

The competitive program at the Southinton-Cheshire Community Gymnastics Center ranges from Level 2 and has gymnasts as high as Level 8. The program is designed to help Gymnasts progress at their own rate in a positive and supportive environment. The team has won multiple awards around New England as well as had athletes place at the 2014 YMCA National Championships in Tampa, Florida.
